A Kenyan court has extended its block on a planned U.S.-run quarantine center at the Laikipia air base, adding to growing concerns about a deadly virus outbreak in Central Africa.

The center was meant to help treat and monitor Americans exposed to the virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. However, many Kenyans have opposed the plan, fearing it could increase the risk of infections in their country.

The Trump administration has said exposed Americans will not be taken back to the United States for treatment. Instead, officials want them treated closer to where they were exposed.

Speaking at a White House briefing, Dr. Mehmet Oz said keeping patients near the outbreak area would allow them to get medical care faster. He also said the U.S. is considering other locations, including facilities connected to the United Kingdom and Germany.

Several Americans exposed to the virus are already being treated or monitored in Europe. Despite public concerns, Kenyan President William Ruto has defended the proposal.
