Spearheaded by former ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, together with other politicians drawn from various political parties across Kenya, the Linda Mwananchi outfit has revitalized the push for youth inclusivity in top leadership positions.

The outfit, which mainly appeals to young people, has reshaped the 2027 General Election contest as pressure mounts on the former ODM Party Secretary General to vie for the presidency. According to a recent opinion poll released by TIFA Research, the Linda Mwananchi faction enjoys 74% backing among the ODM Party’s support base.

In the TIFA Research opinion poll conducted between June 13 and June 22, 2026, former ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, a key figure behind the Linda Mwananchi outfit, recorded one of the fastest rises among opposition figures, climbing to second place among Kenya’s most popular presidential candidates with 15%, slightly behind President William Ruto, who ranked first with 24%.

The fast-rising popularity of former ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has been attributed to the growing desire among younger Kenyans to have one of their own in the country’s top leadership while advocating for better policies to address challenges affecting citizens.

Besides Linda Mwananchi’s growing influence on the political landscape in Western Kenya and across the country, the outcome of the Ol Kalou by-election, which saw the Rigathi Gachagua-led Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) defeat the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has also reshaped politics in the populous Mt. Kenya region. This has resulted in politicians aligned with the ruling party, as well as those from smaller parties, defecting to DCP in a move widely believed to improve their chances of re-election.
