Morocco produced an impressive display against Brazil but had to settle for a 1-1 draw after Vinicius Jr rescued the five-time world champions at MetLife Stadium.

The Atlas Lions took a deserved lead in the 21st minute when Ismael Saibari capitalized on a defensive mix-up and calmly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Morocco dominated much of the first half and created several chances, becoming the first African team to score against South American opposition at the World Cup since their previous meetings with Peru and Brazil ended without a goal.

However, Brazil found an equalizer before halftime as Vinicius Jr cut inside and fired home a powerful strike on his 50th appearance for the national team.

Despite Morocco’s strong performance, they could not find a winner. The draw extends their wait for a first-ever victory in a World Cup opening match, while Brazil maintained their long unbeaten record in tournament openers.
